Introducing Teppo and The Secret Ancient City !

Teppo and The Secret Ancient City is a throwback to 90s platformers where you collected jewels, flicked switches to open up new paths and backtracked to the new area before finally finding the exit. The soundtrack has a classic early 90s platformer vibe, as do the in-game sound effects.

A retro, 8-bit style fast paced platformer action inspired by the following C64 game:

  • Montezuma's Revenge
  • Rick Dangerous
  • Moonshadow

About the game:

"Teppo and The Secret Ancient City" is an exciting adventure where players take on the role of explorer Teppo, searching for the legendary stone fortress hidden in the Amazon jungle. Meeting the mysterious Tanaca Wanax, the last chief of the unknown tribe of elected allies, Ugha Lulala, players will discover the incredible and fantastic history of a highly evolved ancient civilization, superior to that of the Mayas and the Incas. With the help of unknown technologies from space visitors, including magical diamond-shaped stones that can open a portal to access parallel worlds, players will have to overcome obstacles and challenges to reach the fortress and open the first portal. A mystery and discovery filled adventure for fans of exploration and archaeology.

Enemies:

A sample of some of the enemies you'll encounter in your quest:

Enemy

The enemies can’t be killed but can only temporarily stunned instead. You can jump on their head, or use your weapons instead. They will remain in this state until you move away from them, at which point they will respawn and resume their villainous. You’ll notice a small flame remaining in its place and start to circle around at a fast pace. Walk a few steps away from it, and the enemy will respawn!

Weapons:

You can collect three different weapons as you explore each level: a boomerang, a bomb, and a gun. Use the right analog stick to aim in the direction in which you want to attack (only boomerang), and use the boomerang to collect diamonds or hit enemies from a safe distance. The weapons need to be discovered as you play.

Attention!

The weapon is essential to complete the level, don't forget to collect it!.

Tips

It is not necessary to collect all the diamonds in the level. The minimum quantity to open the portal can be found in the PAUSE menu.

Hearts and 1UPs can be found scattered around the levels too.

Checkpoints allow you to save locations in the level where Teppo respawns after death can be inactive (left) and active (right).

For a better gaming experience we recommend using the controller.

In the intermediate levels you will find barrels... if they are blown up they will give you extra lives, of course the maximum number of lives is always 5.

While exploring the level, Teppo will find some blocked wooden doors! To open the door you will have to retrieve the object identical to the semi-transparent one that is placed on top of the stones.

Are there plans to bring this to Steam? Seems weird to be on consoles but not the largest PC storefront.

Maybe it will be available by mid-July.

I'm really enjoying Teppo. Looks, feels and sounds great. Feels like a mix of Commander Keen, Montezuma's Revenge, Rick Dangerous and Sydney Hunter. Great game and well worth the low asking price. It deserves to do well and be played! I look forward to possibly seeing Teppo again on the Atari VCS :-)

Thanks for the nice words! I'll do what I can to port it to Atari VCS :-)
